Gobi Masala Recipe with step by step pictures. This cauliflower masala recipe is made with Cauliflower ,Tomato and Garam Masala. Delicious curry that taste amazing with rice, roti or pulao.

Gobi Masala Recipe

I love cauliflower recipes, they are so tasty and can be made into pretty much anything. This is my latest favourite and love to have it with naan, paratha or roti.

Ingredients for Gobi Masala Recipe (Cauliflower Masala)

  • Oil – 2 tbsp
  • Cauliflower – 1 medium size cut into florets
  • Onion – 1 large chopped finely
  • Ginger Garlic Paste – 1 tbsp
  • Tomato – 2 large size pureed
  • Green Chillies – 2 slit
  • Curry leaves a sprig
  • Chilli Powder – 1 tsp
  • Black Pepper Powder – 1 tsp
  • Cumin Powder / Jeeraka Podi – 1 tsp
  • Coriander Powder / Malli Podi – 1 tbsp
  • Turmeric Powder / Manjal Podi – 1 tsp
  • Garam Masala Powder – 1 tsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Sugar – 1 tsp
  • Unsour Curd / Plain Yogurt – ½ cup
  • Coriander leaves – 3 tbsp finely chopped
Whole Spices:
  • Cinnamon stick – 1 small piece
  • Fennel Seeds / Saunf / Sombu – 1 tsp
  • Cumin Seeds / Jeerakam – 1 tsp
  • Bay Leaf – 1
  • Kalpaasi / Black Stone Flower – 1 piece

How to make Cauliflower Masala Recipe (Gobi Masala)

  1. Start by cooking the gobi, take cauliflower florets in a saucepan. Cover with water and cook for 6 to 8 mins. Drain it and set aside.
  2. Heat oil in a pan, add in the whole spices and saute for a min.
  3. Add in curry leaves, onions, chillies and cook till it is golden..
  4. Add in ginger garlic paste and saute for a min.
  5. Add in all the spice powders along with some water and cook till oil separates, this prevents the spices from burning.
  6. Now add in tomato puree and cook till oil separates.
  7. Add in cooked gobi, salt , sugar and toss well in the masala. Pour water and bring it to a boil, simmer for 5 mins.
  8. Now take some curd in a bowl, add some of the gravy and mix well, this will temper the curd so it wont curdle when you add it to the curry.
  9. Now add in the curd and mix well. Simmer for another 5 mins.
  10. Add in coriander leaves and mix well.
  11. Serve with roti..
