Mohammad Alam was purported to be the driver of the taxi taken by Kappan and the other two accused to travel to Hathras for the purpose of reporting on the gang-rape and murder of a 19-year-old Dalit girl.
Alam arrested along with the others in October 2020.
The prosecution’s allegations were that the accused were travelling to Hathras with an intention to disturb harmony in the area. It was stated that they were collecting funds to run a website full of misinformation and to incite violence.
