Rice and Dal Powder
I got this recipe from a baby book, i loved it so much. Because i am feeding khichdi for maha each day. Making it in small portion is really hard for me. Because i use my pressure cooker, since it is a very small portion, someday the khichdi gets burned and someday i cook too much of khichdi and it gets wasted. So when i saw this instant dal and rice powder, i tried it immediately and maha loved it too. Check out my other health powders too and porridge recipe too..
Ingredients for Rice and Dal Powder
- Rice – 1 cup
- Yellow Split Moong Dal / Pasi Paruppu – ¼ cup
- Masoor Dal – ¼ cup
- Cumin Seeds – 1 tsp
- Asafoetida / Hing / Kaya Podi – ½ tsp
- Homemade ghee – 1 tsp
For Making Porridge:
- Rice Dal Powder – 2 tblspn
- Nuts Powder – 2 tsp
- Water – ¾ cup
- Salt to taste (optional)
- Homemade Ghee – 1 tsp
This is just roasting dal and rice in a tsp of ghee for quite a long time till it is golden and roasted. Now add some roasted cumin and asaofetida and powder them finely.
How to make Rice and Dal Powder
- Wash rice and dal in lots of water till it is completely cleaned. Drain it and dry it.
- Heat ghee in a thick bottom kadai. Add in the washed rice and dal and roast them on a medium heat till it is golden. It will take around 20 to 25 mins.
- Now remove them to a plate and let it cool.
In the same pan roast cumin and asafoetida for a couple of mins and remove them as well. - Now take everything in a blender and powder them finely.
- Place a sieve over a place and sieve this mix. You will get some coarse crumbs, add that back in blender and powder again and sieve it again.
- Once everything is done, allow the powder to cool and then store in a air tight container.
- I store these in fridge.
- When making porridge, i add couple tblspn of this powder and 2 tsp of the nuts powder. Mix them well with ¾ water and heat it. I cook this on low heat till it is cooked, it will take around 5 mins.
- Now remove them from heat and allow it to cool a bit, you can add some salt and some ghee for taste and feed your baby.
