Wheat Puttu Recipe

One of my collegue used to bring wheat flour puttu, tapioca puttu to office. I absolutely love it. In our house we only make traditional rice flour puttu and serve it with payaru and papadam. But the puttu which I tasted from my friends house was so good. It was like love at first sight. I wanted to try them so badly from that day. Then finally the day arrived and yesterday I went to my mom’s place and we made the wheat flour puttu. Everyone loved it a lot and this one tasted more good than the regular one. We had it with banana and sugar and it was perfect.

How to Make Wheat Puttu Recipe

  • Take wheat flour in a large mixing bowl.  Add in salt, sugar and mix well.
  • Now add in water slowly and mix well with your hands. This will form into crumbles. The crumbles should not be dry, it should form into a tight ball when you hold it and it should crumble when you drop it.
  • Now take your puttu making gadget.
  • Fill water in the bottom pot of the puttu gadget and heat it up.
  • Drop the holed disc inside the funnel. Now start layering the funnel.
  • First add some coconut in the bottom, followed by the puttu mixture, then the coconut and the puttu mixture. The top and bottom of the funnel should have coconut.
  • Place the funnel over the pot. Cook this for 4-5 mins till the puttu is cooked.
  • Now the back of a spatula,  push the disc so the puttu releases from the funnel.
  • Serve this puttu hot with banana and sugar.

For making Puttu without Puttu funnel:

  • If you don’t have puttu funnel to make this.Follow the step till the puttu making mixture and  Mix coconut into the puttu mixture.
  • Take a clean cloth and pour the puttu mixture in it and cover it. Place this inside a steamer and steam it.
  • The puttu wont be in traditional shape but it still taste the same.
