After 6 years in detention, mentally-ill youth alleged to be Bangladeshi released by Gauhati High Court

Hindustan Times spoke to the father of the youth, who said that the boy had stormed out of the house and boarded a train when he was 15. He was upset over the father losing his temper and shouting at him “leave us and go to Bangladesh.

HT reported that that the boy was stopped by railway authorities during routine check up and when interrogated, he told the authorities that he was going to Bangladesh.

He was then detained on the suspicion of being a Bangladeshi.

My one remark destroyed his life and he ended up in jail,” said his father, who helps at a shop in Guwahati.
