The petition also pointed out that the not filling up the vacant posts of judges is a denial of justice to citizens and delay in the filling of posts was causing delay in the delivery of justice.

The plea raised grievance that due to shortage of judges, there is a huge pendency of matters since years together and many matter are not being listed for hearing.

Official data from the High Court website pointed out that the case clearance rate of the year 2021 was 67.52%, which meant there was pendency of 32.48% in the year 2021.

“It is high time to create a permanent mechanism for timely filling up the posts of judges as soon as it gets vacant,” the plea emphasized.
