On June 14, the Principal Judge had remanded Balaji to judicial custody for 14 day. A day later, she granted permission to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to interrogate the Minister while he was at the Hospital.
However, on June 24, the ED submitted a memo before the Sessions Court, seeking to withdraw its request for Balaji’s custodial interrogation, saying that given the restrictions in the hospital owing to the Minister’s health, it was unable to question him.
Balaji was arrested after undergoing questioning by the ED in a money laundering case. The charges are from the time of his tenure as Transport Minister with the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) government from 2011 to 2015.
