Delhi High Court orders inspection after Bar Council of Delhi says its office was flooded during rains

The Court passed the order after BCD approached the High Court stating that on the intervening night of June 27 and June 28 when Delhi received nearly 250mm of rainfall, their office’s basement was flooded and many of the files were damaged.

Senior Advocate Ramesh Gupta appeared for the BCD and told the Court their office in the Siri Fort Institutional area. Even though they have complained several times about cleaning the drains, no steps have been taken by the authorities.

Gupta said that because of clogged drains when the city received heavy rains, their office was engulfed and water with garbage entered the basement.

He said that the physical records maintained by the BCD were also affected and the water could have damaged their IT infrastructure as well.

Therefore, immediate action is needed to tackle the issue of waterlogging in the area, it was contended.
