The plea filed by Supreme Court lawyer Shobha Gupta and Sanskriti Shakuntala Gupta, a Delhi resident said that there are large-scale acquittals in cases under the 1994 Act, but as per data available on official websites, the authorities, particularly in Gujarat and Rajasthan, Punjab, have not preferred even a single appeal against order of acquittals.
The possibility of similar inaction by other states and UTs cannot be ruled out, it was submitted.
As per the Rules, authorities are required to file appeal /revision in higher courts against order of acquittal within a period of 30 days but not later than 15 days of receipt of the order of acquittal.
