Centre for Law and Medicine, DNLU is organising a guest lecture on “DNA Profiling: How it is used in Criminal Justice?’ on April 25, 2023 and is seeking registrations for the same.

About DNLU

Dharmashastra National Law University (DNLU) was established by the Madhya Pradesh National Law University Act 24 of 2018.

About the Centre

The Centre for Law and Medicine was established to address the legal aspects of medical practice including ethical aspects of biomedicine (where human beings are directly involved), referred to as bioethics, is a new and increasingly developing interdisciplinary field where the ethical, legal and social implications of medicine is discussed and studied with seriousness.

The Centre aims to bring multidisciplinary perspectives to bear on the legal and ethical issues of the day arising out of medical research and practice. The focal areas of the Research Centre are the areas where medical research and practice intersects with the law and ethics. Advances in medical research, reproductive science, genetic research, etc. give rise to ethical and legal issues that are well known.

The Centre proposes to be a platform for learning, teaching and research relating to ethical and legal aspects of healthcare, medical and biomedical practices.

About the Theme

Theme: DNA Profiling: How it is used in Criminal Justice?

The discovery of the DNA double helix structure is annually commemorated on National DNA Day throughout the world. It’s very special this year! On April 25, 2023, people everywhere will celebrate the 70th anniversary of the discovery of the DNA double helix as well as the 20th anniversary of the conclusion of the Human Genome Project.

The National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) is a pioneer in the National DNA Day celebrations. Since 2003, April 25 has been designated as National DNA Day to commemorate the completion of the human genome project in 2003 and the discovery of the double helix in 1953. The goal and vision of DNA Day are highlighted in its mission statement:

The goal of National DNA Day is to inspire, motivate, and empower communities, educators, and students to create, work together, and uncover the potential of our shared humanity and connection to the natural world.

About the Guest Lecture

The guest lectured organised by DNLU will be based on the theme of DNA DAY celebrated on April 25, 2023. The lecture would be taken by Dr. R.K. Kumawat – Senior Scientific Officer (DNA): State Forensic Science Laboratory, Jaipur, Rajasthan.

Who may Participate?

It will be accessible to everyone and is not limited to students of DNLU.
