First-Day Formalities, Infrastructure, First Impression

The office is situated in the Commercial Complex of Mahima Trinity Towers, is well spacious, beautifully designed and could be accessed by both road transport and Metro.

On the first day, I was asked to fill out an internship form with my basic details and was provided with my Intern login id for accessing the firm database and web resources. I was also introduced to the firm’s partners, associates and other staff members, who welcomed each intern with a warm gesture.

Main Tasks

The main work interns are required to do-

  1. Research relevant case laws and articles related to matters at hand.
  2. Assist in Drafting Written Submissions, Opinion Pieces, Writ Petitions etc.

Work Environment

The work environment at Gargieya’s is quite positive. There is an equal balance of professionalism and fun in the work.

The staff and associates at the firm happily assist one to complete the allotted work and keep the office environment joyful. Further, the co-interns with whom I worked were one of the best I ever get to be with.

The partners at the firm are always there to guide you and teach you the nuances of taxation law. Further, you can approach them without hesitation whenever you feel any confusion or doubt as to how to proceed further.

The firm works exclusively on Tax related matters, and the knowledge for one to learn in taxation laws is abundant.

Good things

The part of my internship that I admired the most was that there was no limitation on learning. The firm has dealt in a plethora of tax-related cases that too on such nuanced issues that studying each case that the firm has undertaken is a learning lesson in itself.

Mahendra Gargieya Sir (Senior Partner of the firm) personally involves interns in drafting/editing petitions, written submissions etc. which gives one a chance to understand the matter first-hand.

I liked being involved in the preparation of Opinion pieces as they were equivalent to working on such research topics that have never been dealt with before. Hence, these opinion pieces were actual creations of legal knowledge rather than a mere reiteration of existing literature that I used to do in my projects.

Further, I also learnt how a factual scenario is broken up into several aspects and then answered accordingly. This helped me understand the perception that the IT department and judges have for a particular tax issue and how those perceptions should be deftly dealt with.

Hence, the involvement of interns from the initial stages of a matter at hand till its completion is the best part of the work undertaken at the organization. Interns are also sometimes required to deal with clients (For basic clerical work) and other managerial work that helps in a holistic understanding of working at a law firm.

Bad things

Nothing as such.

Accommodation & Conveyance to Office

I stay in Jaipur itself so accommodation was not a problem for me. However, there are several PGs near the firm location and one can book them for their stay till the duration of the internship.

Stipend

Based on performance.
