About the Job

Fortrea is looking for an attorney to join the its Corporate Compliance team as a Compliance Counsel. The Compliance Counsel will play a critical role supporting the Vice President, Corporate Compliance and Corporate Compliance Program, in the development and management of the corporate compliance program.

The Compliance Counsel is expected to provide advice, guidance and operational support relating to the Fortrea Code of Conduct and Ethics, Compliance Policies, and applicable laws and regulations including anti-corruption, sanctions, modern slavery, business conduct, and similar corporate compliance issues. The Compliance Counsel will work with other Fortrea business units including Sourcing and Procurement, Global Vendor Management, Internal Audit, Legal, Privacy, Finance and HR.

Preferred Skills & Knowledge

  • Knowledge of applicable laws and regulations, including but not limited to global anti-bribery/anti-corruption laws, anti-human trafficking laws
  • Investigations experience
  • In-house experience with a multi-national corporation
  • Familiarity with compliance-related technology solutions and platforms
  • Experience with data analytics and reporting
  • Creative, outside-the-box thinker

Experience

  • Bachelor of Arts or Science; Juris Doctorate; and License to practice law
  • Lawyer with 10+ years of experience as in-house Compliance Lawyer
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work in cross-border and group environments and ideally with international experience.
  • Comfortable interacting with all levels of senior management.
  • Strong writing, organizational and project management skills.
  • Have a risk spotting mindset with a dedicated approach to compliance and ethical issues.
  • Dedication to fostering an inclusive culture and value diverse perspectives.
  • Must be pro-active and be able to work independently.
  • Sound analytical skills to review matters and identify key legal issues.
  • Be able to partner across teams, to provide practical advice and solutions.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Responsibilities

  • Conducting due diligence on Third Parties identifying bribery, corruption, human trafficking, sanctions, financial, legal, and reputational risks, and mitigating the same as appropriate.
  • Developing and rolling out in person and online trainings and communications including the annual compliance training, quarterly newsletters, and targeted training packs for higher risk groups.
  • Managing the Fortrea Action Line and undertaking data analysis to identify trends, priorities, and mitigation strategies.
  • Managing and developing the Compliance Liaisons Program.
  • Preparing statutory reports, forms, and statements, for example, Modern Slavery and conflict minerals, as well as reports for the Compliance Committee and Board of Directors.
  • Periodically reviewing and updating the Fortrea Code of Conduct and Ethics and Compliance policies, as required.
  • Assisting in developing and managing annual risk assessments, audits and monitoring activities, compliance strategies, and priorities
  • Assisting with internal investigations of a high risk/high impact nature.
