Kharghar heatstroke deaths: PIL in Bombay High Court seeks CBI probe, FIR against Eknath Shinde and Devendra Fadnavis

The petition filed by lawyer Shaila Kanthe stated that the ceremony was held in an open ground in Kharghar where about 10 lakh people gathered.

It was organised by the Maharashtra government, and Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, the Municipal Corporation and Police Commissioner of Navi Mumbai were all aware of the scale of the function and the weather conditions, Kanthe submitted.

She pointed out that due to poor planning, and despite spending over ₹14 crores, people who attended the event were compelled to sit for 7-8 hours in the sun and suffered from heat stroke.

Around 14 deaths reportedly occurred during and after the event, Kanthe emphasized.
