Lawyers perform public service; release Advocates’ Welfare Fund money: Madras High Court to State

A bench of Justices SM Subramaniam and C Kumarappan directed the Tamil Nadu Advocate General PS Raman to inform the State government that allocated funds be disbursed towards the TN Advocates Welfare Fund at the earliest.

“Lawyers are also performing public service just like government servants. We can’t deny them funds. They’re given only 10 Lakh while Group-B public servants are given 60-70 lakh and sometimes even 1 crore. These payments should be made in a stipulated period. It’s not a big amount. We want to ensure that at least 50% of the pending applications are disbursed,” the Court said.
