Surat Court bans use of mobile phones by staff during working hours

A circular to that effect was issued by the Court on May 15 stating that employees working inside the court building as well as other branches are required to surrender their phones to the court registrar or their department heads during office hours.

The circular, while referring to a letter from the High Court, said that a warning had earlier been issued against use of phones by the staff working in Surat District Court and its subordinate courts during working hours.

The use of phones for office work and other special circumstances had been exempted from the prohibition.

However, the circular said some court employees were still found using their mobile phones during office hours which was interrupting the court proceedings and affecting the quality of work.
