The Gujarat High Court pioneered live-streaming of court proceedings, which was made available on its YouTube channel in October 2020.
Following suit, several High Courts including Karnataka, Orissa, Madhya Pradesh, Calcutta, and Chhattisgarh took similar decisions in the interest of transparency and greater access to court hearings.
The High Courts of Kerala, Patna, and Jharkhand have uploaded live streams of court proceedings on their YouTube channels in the past. However, court proceedings in these courts are no longer available for the public to watch live on this platform.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court has also started live-streaming, albeit in a limited manner, with Constitution Bench hearings being made accessible on YouTube.
