Indian Christian Women’s Movement (ICWM) is organizing a webinar on Uniform Civil Code: Exploring its Scope & Relevance, in the Content of India’s Pluralistic Diversity on June 29 from 6 PM to 8 PM.

About ICWM

The proposal for the formation of the Indian Christian Women’s Movement (ICWM) emerged at the National Women’s Conference on the theme “Paradigm Shifts in Vatican II and its Impact on Women” co-organized by Streevani Pune, NBCLC Bangalore, ISI Bangalore, Montfort Social Institute Hyderabad and CBCI Office for Women at the NBCLC, Bangalore from 8 to 11 January 2014.

The presence of an ecumenical sister as a resource person, who voiced the need for a common body of Christian Women in India, helped to consolidate the decision to birth the Indian Christian Women’s Movement (ICWM).

About the Webinar

Does it appear that the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) is very secular and democratic for India? Well before you give your assent, listen to experts explain what UCC means in a diverse country like India.

The 21st Law Commission made a number of suggestions for our Legal system, whether Hindu, Christian, Muslim, or Tribal… so that they can be made more Gender just and more in line with what our Constitution dreamed of! Have they been studied? Implemented? What is the hurry about a UCC? Has it been drafted? Can we see the draft? Why talk about approving an idea that is not even drafted or spelled out?

ICWM has a series of webinars from experts who have studied the idea of a Uniform Civil Code for years.
