New Delhi, Apr 21 (PTI) National Dairy Development Board’s (NDDB) chairman Meenesh Shah on Thursday said the board will support Punjab government’s endeavour to set up additional 12 milk plants in the state with an estimated outlay of about Rs 900 crore.
In a meeting with Punjab’s Animal Husbandry Minister Kuldip Singh Dhaliwal at Anand, Gujarat, Shah said NDDB will work with the Punjab government and arrange the required financial and technical assistance.
Currently, there are 11 milk plants covering 6,000 villages in Punjab. After this, the number of milk plants in the state would rise to 23 and cover a total of 12,000 villages. It would also help in the procurement of additional 10 lakh litres of milk per day, the board said.
In order to overcome the problem of pollution and provide cheaper feed to the dairy farmers, Punjab government will establish Total Mixed Ration (TMR) plant at Amritsar, on lines of two plants successfully operational in Ganganagar and Kolhapur, at an estimated outlay of Rs 80 crore.
NDDB said it “would provide all necessary assistance. This would also help solve the problem of burning crop residues.” For imparting education in dairying on the lines of National Dairy Research Institute (NDRI), NDDB has assured support in preparing a proposal for developing a similar institute in Punjab, it added.
NDDB is a statutory body and its main function is to plan, promote and organise programmes for the purpose of development of dairy sector and other agri-based industries. PTI LUX LUX AJ AJ
