“Where the world has not been broken up into fragments
By narrow domestic walls…
Where the clear stream of reason has not lost its way
Into the dreary desert sand of dead habit…”
– Rabindranath Tagore
She peered out of her ivory tower, the fledgling;
The blue skies, the boundless verdant, the willowy mountains.
How she couldn’t wait to fly away into the open skies, sans frontières!
Fly she did
Only to find
In cages were birds of the same feather
In cages were birds that sang the same tune
In cages were birds feeding on worms
And those feeding on grains
Each holding on tightly to the doors
None willing to open their own
To let in the others
And fly out together to form a world
Full of diverse hues and beautiful tunes
How she yearned to return
To her ivory tower!
