About All India Bar Exam

In March of 2023, the All India Bar Exam (AIBE) will be held. The abbreviation for the All India Bar Exam is AIBE. It is an annual test of Indian lawyers’ competence in the profession. The BCI, or Bar Council of India, administers the AIBE on a national scale. If you want to practice law in America, you need to take the AIBE exam and get your “Certificate of Practice.”

The Bar Council of India grants a certificate of practice to those who score high enough on the admission exam. The test will be given in 40 different cities across India. There is no online component to the test.

Secondly, to prescribe a uniform qualification for the admission of persons to be advocates and to further regulate the entry and overall conduct of Advocates in the profession by laying down standards of professional conduct and etiquette for advocates.

All India Bar Exam 2023 Eligibility Criteria

Nationality: Applying candidates must be Indian Nationals.

Qualifying Exam: Candidates must have completed 3 years or 5 years of LLB Degree from a BCI-recognized law school.

Minimum Marks or Age limit: There is no minimum marks set or age limit prescribed to be eligible for AIBE.

Enrollment with State Bar Council: To appear in the AIBE examination, make sure that the candidate is enrolled in the State Bar of Council. He/ she must have an advocate enrollment card which will be issued via State Bar Council.

All India Bar Exam 2023 Application Form: How to Apply?

Information on the AIBE Entrance Exam Application for the Year 2023 can be found below.

  • In 2023, applicants to AIBE can fill out the application online.
  • In December 2022, the application was made available online.
  • All fields on the application form, including name, address, phone number, email address, educational background, and the like, must be filled out in full.
  • Online registration, filling out application details, uploading photographs, paying the money, and printing out the form are only some of the stages involved in the registration process.
  • The application deadline is anticipated to be the third week of January 2023, so candidates have plenty of time to get their forms in.
  • Inaccuracies in the application information may result in a denial of your application.
  • In order to submit a complete application, students must pay the application fee online.
  • After submitting the application, a hard copy should be printed for your records.

Application Fees

  • The application fee will be non-refundable.
  • For General/ OBC Candidates, the fee will be Rs. 3560.
  • For ST/SC candidates, the fee will be Rs. 2560.
  • Candidates can make payment of the application fee by online and offline mode. Offline mode payment can be done through the SBI Challan method.

All India Bar Exam 2023 Exam Pattern

  • Mode of Exam: The test will be conducted in offline mode. The candidate is required to mark the answer on the OMR Sheet.
  • Type of Questions: The type of questions in the paper will be Multiple choice type.
  • Number of Questions: There will be 100 questions in the question paper.
  • Language of Paper: The paper will be presented in 11 different languages and the candidates can choose any one of mentioned languages.
  • Exam Duration: The duration of the exam will be 3 hours & 30 minutes to solve the paper.
  • Marking Scheme: 1 mark will be awarded for each correct answer.
  • Negative Marking: There will be no negative marking for incorrect answers.
  • Subjects: The question paper will consist of questions from 20 different subjects. The subjects will be divided into various categories such as Category I, and Category II. Each subject of category I consisted of 7 questions, in Category II, subjects will consist of 23 questions in all. 23 questions consisted of part 2 includes questions from 5 subjects of Category II.

Subjects such as Constitutional Law have 10 questions, I.P.C (Indian Penal Code) with 8 questions, Cr. P.C (Criminal Procedure Code) with 10 questions, and C.P.C (Code of Civil procedure) with 10 questions.

Evidence Act has 8 questions, Alternative Dispute Redressal including Arbitration Act has 4 questions, Family Law with 8 questions, and Public Interest Litigation with 4 questions.

Administrative Law with 3 questions, Professional Ethics & Cases of Professional Misconduct under BCI rules with 4 questions, Company Law with 2 questions, Environmental Law with 2 questions, and Cyberlaw with 2 questions.

Labour + Industrial Law for 4 questions, Law of Tort, including Motor Vehicle Accidents and Consumer Protection Law for 5 questions, and Law Related to Taxation with 4 questions.

Law of Contract, Specific Relief, Prop Laws, Spl Contract N. I Ac for 8 questions, Land Acquisition Act for 2 questions, and the last Intellectual Property Laws for 2 questions.

Who should take the All India Bar Examination? What do I need to do to apply?

All students graduating from the academic year 2009-10 onwards need to clear the All India Bar Examination in order to practice law in India. The All India Bar Examination will be conducted every year from 2011 onwards. The Bar Council of India will notify the dates for these examinations. You can apply to take the All India Bar Examination only after you have enrolled as an advocate with a State Bar Council.

How do I apply to appear for the All India Bar Examination?

A detailed announcement of the application process will be made prior to the commencement of the registration process for the All India Bar Examination on the website of the Bar Council of India. Application forms to appear for the All India Bar Examination will be available at the offices of all State Bar Councils. The Bar Council of India also has an online method to apply to register for the All India Bar Examination.

How many times can I attempt the All India Bar Examination?

There is no limit to the number of times you can appear for the All India Bar Examination. The Bar Council of India will notify the final dates in advance of the All India Bar Examination.

Do I have to wait till I undertake the All India Bar Council Examination to enroll?

No. In fact, you are required to enroll as an advocate with the respective State Bar Council in order to be eligible to apply for the All India Bar Examination.

When will I receive the preparatory materials for the All India Bar Examination?

You will receive the preparatory material for the All India Bar Exam approximately two weeks after the Bar Council of India receives your application.
