The National Law University, Delhi is seeking to engage one ‘ Finance Coordinator’ on a contractual basis for Delhi location for the ‘Fair Trial Fellowship Programme’ (‘FTF’) supported by a grant from Azim Premji Philanthropic Initiatives Private Limited.
About the Organization
Project 39A draws inspiration from Article 39-A in the Indian Constitution on equal justice and signals the broadening of our work on the criminal justice system in India. We undertake litigation, research, and communications relating to forensics, torture, legal aid, mental health, and the death penalty.
About the Program
The Fair Trial Fellowship is an opportunity for young lawyers and social workers to work for providing quality legal representation to undertrial prisoners. The Fellowship will train and mentor a group of young professionals to work in collaboration with the State Legal Services Authority towards ensuring a fair trial for undertrial prisoners at both pre-trial and trial stages.
The Fellowship is being currently rolled out for work in Nagpur and Pune Central prisons. The twin goals of the program are to reduce the under-trial population in prisons in Pune and Nagpur and to work with the legal aid system in Maharashtra. To this end, there is a research as well as a litigation component to the program. The program has offices in Pune and Nagpur.

Roles & Responsibilities
- Implement accounting and administrative systems for the program.
- Perform day-to-day processing of financial/accounting transactions (approval of expenses, payment of approved expenses, posting in Tally Prime accounting software, filing of vouchers, managing petty cash, salaries, staff reimbursements, bank reconciliation, etc., in time bound manner).
- Ensure timely payment for staff of the program and external vendors.
- Prepare and maintain accounts, financial reports, and utilization certificates and ensure timely submission of reports to the University and funding agencies.
- Forecast and monitor the budget and expenditure estimates. F. Handling bank and investment-related activities of the program.
- Preparation of monthly tax deduction details for Income Tax and GST returns of Delhi and Maharashtra.
- Liaise with University for various approvals on a day-to-day basis.
- Assist in recruitment processes for hiring team members for the program.
- Assist in the yearly audit of the books of account.
- Maintain a filing system for the program and ensure efficient office operations for both locations.
- Work closely with the administrative staff in Delhi, Pune, and Nagpur to ensure the smooth functioning of the Centre.
- Any other administrative and accounting work that may be necessary as part of the program’s activities.
Salary
Remuneration (u/s 194J) will be commensurate with qualifications, and experience or up to INR 35000 per month.
Eligibility
- Graduate or Postgraduate Qualifications in Commerce.
- Knowledge of accounting systems of public universities/PSU/Government bodies is desirable.
- At least 3 years of minimum relevant experience.
- Proficiency in Tally 9 or Prime accounting software, Ability to use advanced Excel formulas and pivot tables, Microsoft Word, etc.
- Proficiency in written and spoken English is compulsory.
- Familiarity with conversational Hindi is preferable. The ability to read/ write/ speak Marathi will be an advantage.
- Ability to work in a team and fulfill accounting requirements in the public sector.
