To a question by three Members of Parliament (MPs) in the Lok Sabha, the Home Ministry revealed that between 2019 and 2021, 123,528 cases of crime against women were registered across 19 metropolitan cities in the country. Of these, 36,666 were registered in Delhi; 16,645 in Mumbai; 9,343 in Bengaluru and 5,258 in Kolkata.
In Delhi, the year 2020 saw 967 registered cases of rape and 109 cases of dowry death, while the following year, there were 1,226 registered cases of rape and 136 cases of dowry death.
