First-Day Formalities, Infrastructure, First Impression

The legal industry is no stranger to the term ‘law lag’, the belief that law is slow to adapt to the speed at which technology is developing. Under the aegis of Dr Pavan Duggal, regarded as one of the top cyber lawyers around the world, Artificial Intelligence Law Hub is dedicated to getting ahead of such disruptive technologies, through dedicated research.

I had the opportunity of being a part of this research, during my virtual internship with Artificial Intelligence Law Hub. Understanding the evolving legal jurisprudence concerning AI and other disruptive technologies was the aim, and this internship delivered accordingly.

Main Tasks

During my 2-month virtual internship, I researched Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its associated legalities, Law in the metaverse, and the Pegasus Spyware. These broad topics, contained several interesting sub-topics, allowing a comparative study of the laws, policies, emerging strategies, case studies, legal loopholes, and areas of law in need of development, regarding the new technologies.

The need for regulating AI was one of the areas of research that interested me the most. By the end of my research, I was able to realize how AI has made its way into various industries and the impact that it has on our day-to-day lives. This led me to focus more on the need for separate AI legislation, and the analysis of the AI regulation that was recently published by the European Union.

Another compelling research topic was the law in Metaverse. I was not well-versed in this topic before my internship, but the Artificial Intelligent law Hub gave me an opportunity to expand my knowledge by researching various aspects of Metaverse, including e-commerce, consumer protection, electronic contracts, and liability.

I was required to conduct research on the allotted topics comprehensively and submit the research along with an executive summary for each topic. Maintaining a rough folder for the referred research material and preparing an executive summary for each topic enabled me to keep track of the direction of my research.

Work Environment

The communications and interactions throughout the virtual internship were professional. The queries related to the research work could be clarified through email, and the response was always prompt.

Stipend

This was an unpaid Internship.

Anything else?

A thought-provoking research journey through the evolving international discussions, discourses, and deliberations of the legalities associated with the new technologies, sums up my internship experience.

A perfect package for a law student, this internship allowed me to learn how to research in an organized manner. I sincerely recommend this internship for law students.
