X’s Community Notes will now include videos in order to curb misinformation

X has added a way to give context to videos posted on the app. Any video posted can be updated with Notes and the tag will appear every time a similar video is posted. This feature was updated to correct information on community videos. Similar Community Notes have been added to images as well, where people can rectify information. Users can now see matching images that apply to that fact check. The approved Community Notes will appear every time a flagged video or image is reshared.

With this new update, Community Notes users will be able to put context on videos they find misinformed, which can then be verified for accuracy by other users in the volunteer moderation program. If more Community Notes users find it useful, then the Notes will appear every time the post is shared and it will be locked down after two weeks unless changed. If Community Notes users don’t find the Notes accurate, it will disappear.

According to Community Notes’ post on X, a select group of Community Notes power users, known as ‘Top Writers’ can add context and fact-check information on the app. The post said this is a  ‘highly scalable way’ of fact-checking AI-generated or edited videos.

Elon Musk added this Community Notes feature last year (previously called Birdwatch) to moderate content on the app. This feature has been rolled out in the US and other countries globally and there are plans to add more to the list eventually.
