Delhi Police has alleged that Imam is one of the key conspirators in the 2020 Delhi riots case. It is the prosecution’s case that Imam and others conspired to organise riots using the protests against Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and National Register of Citizens (NCR) as a front.
The Bench headed by Justice Kait is hearing Imam’s bail plea afresh after Justice Siddharth Mridul (who had heard the case in detail) was elevated as Chief Justice of Manipur High Court.
