SVKM’s NMIMS School of Law, Navi Mumbai is organising 2nd National Seminar ‘Athena’ on April 21. The last date of submission is March 25.

About the Organisation

Established in the year 2018, SVKM’ s NMIMS, School of Law, Navi Mumbai offers two courses, BA-LL.B (Hons.) and BBA-LL.B (Hons.), catering to the growing needs of the legal field. In providing such choice, it aims to create diversity in learning. The courses are designed in a manner that in addition to imbibing theoretical knowledge of law, the students are exposed to the practical facets of the law.

It prepares the students for the real world by honing one ’ s soft skills such as framing and drafting of arguments, interpretation of statutes; whilst keeping in touch with our political and historical heritage, and flexibility with work environments. The school also enables students to explore opportunities for international exposure and global experience, which is imperative in a globalised world.

Alongside the same, the school prioritises co-curricular and extra-curricular activities such as Moot Court Competitions, ADR Competitions and Seminars. In pursuit of the same, SOL works in committees, each specialised in a certain function and co-curricular activity.

About the Conference

Law as a subject demands constant upgradation and revaluation to adapt to the needs of the society today and not be forced to mould the society to what the law was when it was made. Despite there being Constitutional mechanisms to cater to this need, the true spirit of this revaluation lies in the analysis and in depth understanding by the legal fraternity.

After the success of the National Conference: Athena on 16TH April 2023, the Publication and Seminar Committee of School of Law, NMIMS, Navi Mumbai wishes to hold a Seminar on niche, rather unexplored topics of law with the same spirit. It is required that all entries be submitted through the Microsoft Form attached below.

Eligibility

The conference shall host university students, academicians and other professionals pertaining to the field of law or legal research.

Themes

The Broad Theme is ‘Blueprint for Tomorrow: Crafting a Sustainable World’.

The Sub-Themes are as follows:

1. Climate Action:

• Promotion of Climate Action and Activism against Climate Change: Analysis on Legal Effectiveness of International Agreements.
• Countering Actions against Climate Change in India: Role of National Climate Change Legislations
• Judicial Activism against Climate Change in India: How Judiciary has stressed on fulfilment of International Obligations.
• Impact of Environmental Justice: Legal Aspects and Remedies on mitigating disproportionate impact of climate change on marginalized communities.

2. Quality Education:

• Discussion on the factors that contribute to the continued absence of numerous children from educational institutions
• Does the New Education Policy in India equip students to thrive in the current competitive environment?
• How are laws championing inclusive education navigating the intricate path of ensuring universal access and equality, with a special lens on addressing the distinctive requirements of marginalized communities in India?
• Delve into the legal tapestry woven by national instruments like India’s Right to Education Act and global conventions such as the Convention on the Rights of the Child

3. Peace, Justice and strong institution

• International criminal law and prosecution of war crimes, genocide and crime against humanity
• Human rights protection and promotion: minority rights and indigenous people’s rights
• Combating corruption- whistleblower protection laws
• Constitutional Frameworks for Peacebuilding: Examine how constitutions contribute to post-conflict reconciliation and social cohesion

4. Industry Innovation Infrastructure

• Role of Indian companies in sustainable industrialization
• Innovation in environmental compliance
• CSR and Infrastructure development
• Green Technology and SDG 9: Promotion of green technology in Indian industries under Companies Act 2013
• Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) for Infrastructure Development: role of PPPs in achieving SDG 9 in India
• Impact of Environmental Regulations on Innovation- how environmental regulations in India influence innovation in industries.

Formatting Guidelines

• Only abstract submissions in Microsoft Word (.doc/.docx) formats will be accepted.
• Each abstract submission must clearly state the theme and the specific topic.
• Each abstract must give a comprehensive and complete overview of the contents of the paper to be submitted.
• Abstracts should be of 500 words. Body of the abstract manuscript should be in Times New Roman, with font size 14 for the headings and font size 12 for the content, with line spacing 1.5 and ‘Justified’ alignment.
• Co-authorship is permitted with a maximum of two authors per submission.
• Submissions must be original work and should not have been submitted, published, or presented elsewhere in any form.
• Intimation of acceptance or rejection of abstract will be done within 72 hours of receipt of the abstract.
• In case of acceptance of abstract, paper submission guidelines, code of conduct, and payment link will be immediately provided in the acceptance email itself.
• Further, paper submission guidelines will be formally intimated on 25th March 2024, along with other details regarding the national conference.

Submission Guidelines

• Only paper submissions in Microsoft Word (Doc./Docx.) formats will be accepted.
• Each submission must clearly state its theme and specific topic.
• Papers should range from 3000 to 5000 words, excluding footnotes.
• Accepted citation styles include Harvard Bluebook (20th edition), OSCOLA, MLA, and Chicago Style.
• The body of the manuscript should be written in Times New Roman, with font size 14 for headings and font size 12 for the content.
• The preferred line spacing is 1.5, and the alignment should be ‘Justified.’
• All footnotes must be single-spaced with a font size of 10.
• Co-authorship is permitted with a maximum of two authors per submission.
• Submissions must be original work and should not have been submitted, published, or presented elsewhere in any form.

Fee

• Fees for single authors – INR 400
• Fees for co-authorship – INR 500
• Fees for academicians and other professionals – INR 600

Note: Fees to be paid only after the intimation of acceptance of the abstract.
