Arjun Ram Meghwal retains independent charge of Minister of State for Law and Justice

69-year-old Meghwal is a retired Indian Administrative Services (IAS) officer who went on to serve as the District Magistrate (Collector) in Rajasthan.

Previously, Meghwal had served as the Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs, Water Resource, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation during Modi’s first term as Prime Minister. He has been a member of the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) for over a decade.

In 2009, Meghwal was elected as the Member of Parliament (MP) in the Lok Sabha from Bikaner and was re-elected in the 2014 general election. During his second term as an MP, he was the Chief Whip of the BJP in Lok Sabha.
