PIL before Madras High Court to remove Sai Baba idols from State run Hindu temples

According to the petitioner, seven to eight temples under the HR&CE Department have installed statues of Sai Baba, which he believes is against the principles and traditions of Hindu worship.

It was argued that temples are meant exclusively for deities and not for individuals considered godmen.

“My prayer is that all idols of godmen, including Sai Baba, in temples under HR&CE should be removed. Private temples can do whatever they want. But can HR&CE temples have idols of godmen,” the counsel for the petitioner argued.

Further, the plea emphasized that Sai Baba, considered by many as a saint, is a Muslim. It has argued that installing his idol in Hindu temples managed by HR&CE contravenes the Agamas, which are traditional scriptures guiding temple rituals and deity worship in Hinduism.
