Plea in Bombay High Court seeks contempt of court against Rahul Gandhi, Uddhav Thackeray, Dhruv Rathee

Following Shiv Sena Member of Parliament (MP) Ravindra Waikar’s win by 48 votes in his constituency, a first information report (FIR) was registered against Waikar’s relative for unauthorised use of a mobile phone at a counting centre.

Subsequently, newspaper Mid-Day published news about the investigation stating that the phone could unlock the EVM, which was invalidated by Police as well as Election officers.

The plea states that despite the news being wrong and the newspaper issuing an apology for the same, the respondents continued creating false narratives based on it.

“When falsity of the news came to light, the accused instead of tendering apology had further created their false narratives and they are trying to mislead the public at large,” it adds.
