Bombay High Court takes suo motu cognizance of Nagpur Airport’s 8-hour daily closure

A news item published in a vernacular newspaper on August 2 revealed that the airport’s operations have been suspended for eight hours daily since March due to supposed runway repairs.

However, the report highlighted that little to no repair activity has been carried out since the closure began, causing significant inconvenience to and from travellers from Central India.

Given Nagpur’s geographic location at the country’s centre, the airport’s operation is crucial for the convenience of people residing in Central India.

Considering the gravity of the issue, Justice Nitin W Sambre and Justice Abhay J Mantri decided to register a suo motu Public Interest Litigation (PIL) on the same.
