The case in question relates to the compensation payable to those people affected by mining activities in the State. The application filed by the State sought release of funds for implementation of restoration projects under the Comprehensive Environmental Plan for Mining Impact Zones (CEPMIZ).
The plea mentioned that the Central Empowered Committee had recommended a CEPMIZ to the tune of ₹24,000 crore. The amount now accumulated has reached ₹18,722 crore, which is now available with the Monitoring Committee, the application said.
The matter is of grave urgency since funds are to be utilised for people residing in affected mining districts, it was contended.
