In response to the judge’s observations, the parties submitted that they wished to take measures to keep the peace, and restore traditional harmony and faith between all sections of the society. Pursuant to this, they offered to serve cool sherbet and water to passers-by and thirsty travellers for one week.
The Court appreciated the initiative suggested by the counsel for the parties, noting,
“The calling of law is a summons to public service. It is reassuring that notables of the legal profession are conscious of their public duties to promote constitutional values. Selfless service and refined dialogue will strengthen the resolve of the society to shun hate and violence.”
Therefore, the local police and administration were directed to ensure that appropriate arrangements were made to ensure that the activity could continue peacefully, without impediment.
