61-year-old moves Bombay High Court against Police summons after he filed RTI query on security provided to RSS HQ

Advocate Jitesh Duhilani, the legal aid lawyer provided to Singh, told the Court that he came to know from newspaper reports that the government was providing security to RSS office situated in Nagpur despite it being an ‘unregistered NGO’.

“Therefore, out of curiosity, the petitioner on June 30, 2021, filed an application under the RTI Act seeking information from the state home department’s public information officer on what basis was security being provided to the RSS office and how much was being spent on the same,” the plea said.

It added that his query was forwarded to the State secret (intelligence) department which was subsequently routed to Nagpur Police.

As per plea, the Deputy Police Commissioner of Nagpur (Special Branch), informed petitioner that the concerned wing of Police has been exempted from providing information under the RTI Act and the information sought by him cannot be provided due to the same reasons.

On December 26, 2021, the API (Traffic), MIDC, Nagpur city sent a notice to Singh summoning him for inquiry about his RTI application and recording of his statement.
