Bombay High Court forms special bench to review slum redevelopment law

The direction comes in a case involving a developer whose slum redevelopment project was delayed for over 20 years, resulting in the termination of contract.

The Supreme Court pointed out several issues with the Act, noting that while it aims to provide essential housing, it has also led to a significant amount of litigation.

Currently, there are 1,612 cases pending related to the Act in the Bombay High Court, with 135 of these cases older than 10 years. In the last 20 years, 4,488 cases have been filed but many remain unresolved.
