CfP: Virtual Conference on Gender Justice by School of Law, Christ (Deemed to Be University), Delhi-NCR [Apr 4-5]: Submit by Feb 28

The School of Law, Christ (Deemed to be University), Delhi-NCR, is organizing a two-day virtual national Conference on Gender Justice: Fostering Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, to be held on April 4-5, 2022

About the Organizer

CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Delhi NCR was born out of the educational vision of St Kuriakose Elias Chavara, an educationalist and social reformer of the nineteenth century in South India. The University Grants Commission (UGC) of India conferred Autonomy to Christ College in 2004 and identified it as an Institution with Potential for Excellence in 2006.

In 2008 under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956, the Ministry of Human Resource Development of the Government of India, declared the institution Deemed to be University, in the name and style of Christ University. One of the first institutions in India to be accredited in 1998 by the NAAC, and subsequently in 2004 and 2016, CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Delhi NCR has the top grade ‘A’ in the 4-point scale.

About the Conference

Gender justice is the bedrock of any progressive-democratic nation for accomplishing sustainable and
inclusive growth for its population. Gender is a distinct identity and it cannot be designed on the basis
of “socially constructed” standards and norms. Such existing glass ceiling and thought processes would
hamper the opportunities and invite obstacles to reforms which would detrimentally lead to injustice,
discrimination and social exclusion. In India, our Constitution guarantees a rule of law with no
discrimination based on gender, caste, ethnicity, and religion. Also, there are statutes and judicial
precedents safeguarding and highlighting the rights of vulnerable and gender minorities.

However, due to the prevalent patriarchal power structures, cultural and economic constraints besides
internalized subordination, the realization of universal standards of gender equity and equality would be challenging. It is vital to assimilate legislation, policy, and precedents pertaining to gender equality to practice in order to pay attention to unheard voices thereby fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion.

For this very purpose, the School of Law, Christ University, NCR campus is organizing a National
Conference titled as “GENDER JUSTICE: FOSTERING DIVERSITY, EQUITY, AND INCLUSION”. By
linking policy and practice, this conference endeavors to facilitate a novel perspective to support
gender justice.
