Additional Government Advocate Vani H, who represented the State, said that 132 books in the State curriculum have already been uploaded to the Karnataka Textbook Society’s (KTBS) website in the e-pub format, and 403 books remain to be converted. The electronic publication, or epub format is a newer technology which makes books accessible to persons with visual impairments, rather than braille. The cost to convert each textbook is ₹3-4 lakh, she said.
The government is working with various NGOs to convert all the textbooks, she added.
