Crimes against women, children, senior citizens, marginalised groups on rise in 2022: NCRB report

4.45 lakh cases of crime against women were registered in 2022, indicating a 4% rise since 2021. Last year, the crime rate registered per lakh women population was 66.4, compared to 64.5 in 2021.

There has also been a steady rise in crimes against women over the last three years — from 3.71 lakh cases in 2020 to 4.28 lakh cases in 2021 and then increasing to 4.45 lakh cases in 2022.

With 65,743 cases, Uttar Pradesh had the highest number of such cases, followed by Maharashtra with 45,331 cases and Rajasthan witnessing 45,058 cases in 2022. 

Among metros, Delhi logged 14,158 cases of crime against women. In 2021 and 2020, Delhi witnessed 13,982 and 9,782 cases, respectively.
