Delhi Riots: Case based on conspiracy theories and not on evidence, Counsel for Khalid Saifi tells Delhi High Court

John was arguing Saifi’s appeal challenging the Karkardooma court’s order denying him bail in the Delhi Riots conspiracy case.

“Use of these kinds of alarming phrases should never be encouraged. This is the prejudice they are seeking to create. This is based on their conspiracy theories not on evidence. This alarming language is being used without any evidence,” she said while referring to allegations made in the chargesheet.

The senior advocate said Saifi has been in custody since February 2020 and was arrested in the present case in March 2020.

“I do not know whether this case will ever get over during my lifetime… Can we keep a person in indefinite incarceration and wait for them to prove their case which they might not be able to prove?”
