Go through the judgment about Punjab Governor: Supreme Court to Kerala Governor

A bench of Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud with Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra told Attorney General (AG) for India R Venkataramani, who was appearing for Khan, to go through the top court’s 27-page judgment in which it had said that a Governor is only a symbolic head of a State, and cannot thwart the lawmaking powers of legislatures

“Please go through the Punjab Governor judgment,” the Court said.

The top court was hearing a plea by Kerala government against Governor Arif Mohd Khan over the delay in assent to bills passed by the State Legislative Assembly.

Former AG KK Venugopal is appearing for the Kerala government in the matter.

The Punjab government had also filed a similar plea before the top court in which the top court delivered its judgment on November 10 making it clear that a Governor cannot use his/her constitutional powers to stall the enactment of legislative bills.
