The information was furnished by the Central government in response to a public interest litigation (PIL) seeking a Special Investigation Team (SIT) or Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into recent mishaps at airports.
The PIL was filed after heavy rain caused roof collapses at airports in Delhi, Jabalpur and Rajkot. The June 27 collapse at Delhi airport resulted in 1 death and 8 injuries.
It was argued that the three mishaps raise questions about the structural integrity of the country’s airports.
After considering the Centre’s response and the steps taken, the High Court closed the PIL.
