About DAKSH

DAKSH, India’s leading think-tank and research institution focused on law and justice system reforms and access to justice is embarking on an exciting journey to explore the significance of the Finance Commission in relation to the Indian judiciary.

The XV Finance Commission made significant grants to various sectors, including the judiciary, to establish more fast-track courts for high-priority cases such as economic offences and issues affecting marginalised communities. Our project will delve into the basis and methodologies behind these allocations, examining if they were effective and how they can be improved.

We will conduct a comprehensive historical analysis of the Finance Commission’s allocations to the judiciary, reviewing key government documents like the State Finance Commission and CAG reports. We aim to develop a robust, data-driven methodology for future fund allocations to the judiciary. Additionally, we will explore how the judiciary can use these funds effectively.
