Jammu & Kashmir High Court to hear maintainability of plea challenging inclusion of Pahari speaking people in ST quota

The plea states that Parliament has included the ‘Pahari Ethnic Group’, ‘Paddari Tribe’, ‘Kohli’ and ‘Gadda Brahmin’ communities in the list of Schedule Tribes (STs) for the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir without any reasonable justification or empirical data.

The petitioners have objected to the inclusion of Pahari speaking people in the list of STs merely on a linguistic basis. They have also challenged a statutory order issued by the J&K administration providing 10% reservation to STs already recognised in J&K and an additional 10% separately to the four newly added tribes.
