The resolution points out that the need for a unified State of those who speak Malayalam has been strongly asserted since the Indian freedom struggle.
However, the name of the state in the First Schedule of the Constitution of India is Kerala, not Keralam.
The resolution has sought urgent action from the Central government under Article 3 of the Constitution to alter the First Schedule to change the name to Keralam.
It also seeks action to change the name of the State to Keralam in all the languages mentioned in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution.
