Kerala High Court quotes Shakespeare’s Othello while overturning acquittal of man who killed wife’s alleged lover

“I think my wife be honest, and think she is not.

I think thou are just, and think thou are not.”(Act II, Scene 3)

“Ay, let her not and perish and be

Damned tonight for she shall not live” (Act IV, Scene 1)

A Division Bench of Justices K Vinod Chandran and C Jayachandran began its judgement with this quote from the The Tragedy of Othello, The Moor of Venice by William Shakespeare.

The play is set in motion when Othello, a heroic general in the service of Venice, appoints Cassio and not Iago as his chief lieutenant. Jealous of Othello’s success and envious of Cassio, Iago plots Othello’s downfall by falsely implying that Othello’s wife, Desdemona, and Cassio had a love affair.
