About the Training & Competition

At Lawctopus Law School, we are excited to announce a unique Client Counselling and Courtroom Skills: Training & Competition.

This three-week training and competition will begin with a three-day training on the Domestic Violence (DV) Act, drafting DV applications, client counselling strategies, and courtroom skills. 

A client counselling competition and a Virtual Courtroom Competition will follow.

Program Schedule:

  • Oct 4-6, 2024: Training
    Gain valuable insights and hands-on experience in the DV Act, drafting DV applications, and client counselling strategies through live sessions.
  • Oct 13, 2024: Client Counseling Competition and Elimination Round
    Participate in a client counselling competition based on the problem statement, and apply your knowledge to real-world scenarios.
  • Oct 14, 2024: Submission of DV Application
    Submit your DV application based on the problem statement given to you, using the skills learned in the training.
  • Oct 18-20, 2024: Courtroom Skills Competition
    Showcase your courtroom skills by arguing the DV application in a simulated trial environment.

Registration is in teams of three, and you can form a team independently—no official permission from your college is required.

You have two registration options:

  1. Training and Competition:
    • Fees: Rs. 6900/- per team
  2. Competition Only (Client Counselling and Courtroom Skills):
    • Fees: Rs. 4900/- per team

Structure of the Training & Competition


Week 1 – Training

Day 1 – Understanding the DV Act (2 hours)

  1. Meaning, Objectives and Concept of DV Act
  2. How to draft an Application under Section 12, DV Act
  3. How to draft an Affidavit of Assets and Liabilities (Rajneesh v. Neha guidelines)

Day 2 – Client Counselling Strategies (2 hours)

  1. Role of Legal Counsellor 
  2. Art of information extraction 
  3. Identifying client needs and providing solutions 

Day 3 – Oral Advocacy and Courtroom Skills 101

  1. Art of Submission 
  2. Art of Examining a Witness 
  3. Language & Courtroom etiquette 

Week 2 – Submissions & Client Counselling Competition

Day 1 – Client Counseling Competition and Elimination Round

Day 2 – Submission of the DV Application based on the problem statement given to you

Day 3 – Draw of Lots for Courtroom Skills Competition

Week 3 – Courtroom Skills Competition

Day 1 – First Hearing and Preliminary Submissions of Application and Explanation of the Affidavit

Day 2 – Evidence of 2 witnesses and Final Arguments

Day 3 – Semifinals and Finals along with Valedictory Ceremony

An orientation session will be held for all registrants to explain the entire process in detail.

Competition Guidelines

  • The competition is open to students pursuing a three—or five-year LLB course or LLM from any law school/college/university in India recognized by the Bar Council of India.
  • Each team should consist of 3 members: 2 speakers and 1 witness
  • Students can form their teams independently, and official permission from the college/university or the college’s moot court society is NOT required. 
  • More than one team per college can register. 
  • Students from different colleges can also come together and form a team.

Courtroom Skills Competition:

  • Winning Team: INR 25,000 + 50% off on any Lawctopus Law School (LLS) Course

Client Counselling Competition:

  • Last date for clarifications on Problem Statement and Rules – October 8, 2024 (Tuesday)
  • Client Counseling Competition – October 13 , 2024 (Sunday)
  • Last date for submitting DV Application – October 14, 2024 (Monday)
  • Courtroom Skills Competition – October 18, 19, 20, 2024 (Friday-Sunday)

Language

The competition will be in English only. Participants are prohibited from using vernacular language.
