The subject matter of this Competition will revolve around the widely practised, highly relevant Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005 (the DV Act) — again, a unique theme never done before that gives you an insight of the fascinating world of Trial practice in India!

Competition Guidelines

  • The competition is open to students pursuing a three—or five-year LLB course or LLM from any law school/college/university in India recognized by the Bar Council of India.
  • Each team should consist of 3 members, 2 speakers and 1 witness. 
  • Students can form their teams independently and official permission from the college/university or the college’s moot court society is NOT required. 
  • More than one team per college can register. 
  • Students from different colleges can also come together and form a team.

Prizes

  1. Winning Team: INR 25,000 + 50% off on any LLS’ Course
  2. Second-Best Team: INR 15,000 + 30% off on any LLS’ Course
  3. Best Team-Client Counselling Competition: INR 12,000 + 30% off on any LLS’ Course

Note: All Teams will be awarded participation & merit certificates accordingly.

Registration Fee

For registration to the competition,

  • Payment of a Registration Fee of INR 6,999/- per team is required to be made by a team willing to register for the competition. (With the training)
  • Payment of a Registration Fee of INR 4,999/- per team is required to be made by a team willing to register for the competition. (Without the training)

  • Registration opens: August 02, 2024
  • Release of the Rules & Proposition of the Competition: August 7, 2024
  • Last date to register: September 13, 2024 (with Training) & September 20, 2024 (without Training)
  • Training: September 13, 14, 15 2024 (Friday-Sunday)
  • Last date for clarifications: September 17, 2024
  • Submission of Application: September 22, 2024 (Sunday) (11:59 PM)
  • Client Counselling Competition and Draw of Lots: September 22, 2024 (Sunday)
  • Virtual Courtroom Competition: September 27, 28 & 29, 2024 (Friday-Sunday)

Language

The competition will be in English only. Participants are prohibited from using vernacular language.

Flow of the Competition

Week 1: Training

Day 1: Understanding the concept of the DV Act (2 hours)

  1. Meaning, Objectives and Concept of DV Act, 2005
  2. How to draft an Application under Section 12, DV Act
  3. How to draft an Affidavit of Assets and Liabilities (Rajneesh v. Neha guidelines)

Day 2: Learning the concept of Client Counselling (2 hours)

  1. Role of Legal Counsellor 
  2. Art of information extraction 
  3. Identifying client needs and providing solutions 

Day 3: Oral Advocacy and Courtroom Skills 101  and Draw of Lots (2 hours)

  1. Art of Submission 
  2. Art of Examining a Witness 
  3. Language & Courtroom etiquette 

Week 2: Understanding

  • Client Counseling Competition 
  • Submission of the Application 
  • Draw of Lots

Week 3: Representing

  • Day 1 & Day 2: Trial of the case 
  • Day 3: Semi-finals and Finals along with Valedictory

Procedure of the Rounds

  1. The first round of the competition is the Submission of the Application. 
  2. All the teams will have to prepare both sides of the Application i.e. Application under Section 12, DV Act on behalf of the Complainant and a reply Application on behalf of the Non-Complainant.
  3. The second round will be the Client Counselling Competition. 
  4. 30 Teams will be selected from the Client Counselling Competition and move towards Week 3.
  5. The third round will constitute of-
    • Day 1 – First Hearing and Preliminary Submissions of the Application and Explanation of the Affidavit of Assets and Liabilities,
    • Day 2 – Evidence of Witnesses and Final Arguments.
    • Day 3 – Semi-Final Round & Final Round!
