Madras High Court dismisses VK Sasikala plea staking claim to post of AIADMK interim General Secretary

Sasikala, a close aide of late AIADMK chief and former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, J Jayalalithaa, was appointed as the interim general secretary of AIADMK on December 29, 2016.

However, after Sasikala was convicted in a case of disproportionate assets by the Supreme Court in 2017, the party’s General Council removed her from the post and in its place created two new posts of coordinator and joint coordinator. It then appointed O Panneerselvam (OPS) and Edappadi K Palaniswami (EPS) to the two new posts respectively.

Sasikala approached the lower court claiming that the General Council meeting was illegal and in breach of the party bylaws.
