My Transformative Journey Through Law School at MNLU-A

This Law School Experience has been shared anonymously.

I am a third-year B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) student at Maharashtra National Law University, Aurangabad (MNLU-A). Reflecting on my law school journey, I am filled with a sense of pride and accomplishment.

From the reluctant freshman hesitant to write an article to the third-year student confidently drafting agreements and participating in prestigious debates, Model United Nations, and Youth Parliament sessions, I have come a long way.

This essay recounts my transformative experiences, highlighting the academic achievements, extracurricular engagements, and personal growth that have shaped my law school life.

Academic Experiences

Memorable Classes and Lectures

I vividly remember one incident where a mischievous student decided to spray pepper spray in the classroom, causing the entire class to erupt in laughter and coughing fits.

Despite the disruption, the professor remained composed and quickly arranged for us to shift to another classroom, where we continued the lecture sitting on the floor due to the lack of chairs.

    Challenging Subjects

Jurisprudence presented significant challenges due to its intricate concepts and broad scope. I remember feeling overwhelmed during my second semester, but I was determined to succeed.

I adopted various study techniques, including forming study groups, seeking guidance from professors, and utilizing supplementary materials.

The sense of accomplishment I felt after mastering complex topics was immense, and it taught me the value of perseverance and hard work.

      Influential Professors

Professor Rahul Kosambi, Prafulla Lele, K. Vinay Kumar, and Neha Tripathi played a pivotal role in my academic journey. Their dedication to teaching and personalized guidance helped me navigate challenging subjects.

Their mentorship was not just about academic excellence; it was about inspiring me to think critically and pursue my passions. Their influence extends beyond the classroom, shaping my approach to law and my career aspirations.

        Extracurricular Activities

Participation in Moot Court Competitions and Legal Clinics

Participating in my 1st moot court competition was a transformative experience and that too because my Professor Neha Tripathi asked me to do it, since I was reluctant that being it my first Moot how would I perform?

In the 3rd Intra-Moot Court Competition at MNLU-A, our team emerged within the top 15 out of 60 teams. This achievement was a testament to our hard work and collaboration.

Additionally, working on specific cases in legal clinics provided practical exposure, allowing me to apply my theoretical knowledge to real-world scenarios.

These experiences honed my legal research, writing, and argumentation skills, making me a more confident and competent law student.

          Involvement in Student Organizations

As a team leader of the IDIA MNLU-A Chapter and an elected representative of the Internship and Placement Cell, I undertook various responsibilities, including organizing events and facilitating internships for my peers.

Leading the IDIA chapter, I organized awareness programs and mentorship sessions, fostering a sense of community and support among students.

These roles enhanced my leadership, teamwork, and organizational skills, preparing me for future professional challenges.

Organizing and Attending Seminars and Workshops

Organizing seminars and workshops on topics such as public law and intellectual property allowed me to interact with notable speakers and gain insights into current legal issues. Attending these events broadened my knowledge and provided networking opportunities with professionals in the field. The excitement of learning from experts and the inspiration drawn from their experiences were invaluable.

              Personal Growth

              Skills and Knowledge Gained

Law school has equipped me with essential legal skills, including legal research, drafting, and argumentation. Furthermore, I developed soft skills such as effective communication, leadership, and teamwork through various extracurricular activities and internships.

These skills were put to the test and refined during my internships at VNA Partners, Bridge Think Tank, and the Juvenile Justice Board, where I handled tasks ranging from legal drafting to comprehensive research.

                Overcoming Obstacles

Balancing academics with extracurricular activities was challenging, but it taught me effective time management and stress management techniques. One of the most challenging yet rewarding experiences was preparing for moot court competitions while managing a rigorous academic schedule.

The late nights spent researching and drafting, coupled with the pressure to perform, tested my limits. However, overcoming these challenges made me more resilient and adaptable, reinforcing my belief in my capabilities.

                  Developing a Professional Network

Law school provided numerous opportunities to build a professional network. Internships at VNA Partners, Bridge Think Tank, and the Juvenile Justice Board allowed me to work closely with experienced professionals and mentors. These relationships have been invaluable in shaping my career aspirations and providing guidance for my professional development. Mentorship from these professionals has been instrumental in my growth, offering insights and advice that have shaped my career path.

                    Emotional Milestones

Winning debates, Model United Nations, and Youth Parliament sessions were not just achievements but emotional milestones in my journey.

Each victory, whether it was being awarded Honorable Mention in the National Youth Parliament at SVKM’s NMIMS, Indore, or emerging as the Best Delegate in the 4th Edition of KLB MUN International Conference, filled me with a sense of pride and validation.

These successes were the culmination of hard work, dedication, and a relentless pursuit of excellence. They were moments that reaffirmed my belief in my abilities and motivated me to aim higher.

                    Conclusion

Reflecting on my law school journey, I am grateful for the experiences that have shaped my personal and professional growth. From the academic challenges and extracurricular engagements to the emotional milestones and personal triumphs, each experience has contributed to my development.

The lessons learned and the skills acquired have prepared me for a successful legal career. As I continue my journey, I am confident that the foundation built during law school will be instrumental in achieving my career goals and personal aspirations.
