Triple-murder case: Supreme Court tells UP to immediately decide remission plea by ex-BSP MLA Uday Bhan Singh

On April 29, a bench of Justice Oka and Justice Ujjal Bhuyan had set aside the State’s decision to deny remission (early release from prison) to the former Bahujan Samajwadi Party (BSP) MLA on the ground that he had been convicted for three murders.

After taking note that three other convicts similarly placed with Singh had already been granted remission, the Court had allowed Singh’s plea and directed the UP government to reconsider his request.

However, since no decision was taken by the government, Singh filed a contempt of court petition alleging that the State had failed to comply with the top court’s directive.
