The affidavit also said that platforms such as Twitter were not taking effective steps to prevent the spread of fake news or deliberate misinformation.
“As such, misinformation content relating to sovereignty and integrity, national security or public order related issues are on the rise,” it was submitted.
Due to this, such platforms are being misused by anti-India elements and foreign adversaries for anti-India propaganda at the national and global level to create disunity and disorder in the country, it was alleged.
Therefore, it is essential to detect and block such misinformation at the initial stage, the government contended.
